Following the results of a June, 2015 condition assessment performed on 51 of the Capitol’s extensive collection of murals, the Commission has endorsed the treatment proposal submitted by Van Witt Fine Art Consultants, and is working with the Office of Administration, Division of Facilities Management, Design & Construction to move forward with restoration plans. The murals, which include 41 “lunette” paintings located on the second floor corridors and museum galleries, as well as paintings located in the Governor’s Office and the Senate Chamber, include works by such notable artists as N.C. Wyeth and feature a number of notable Missouri subjects, including Mark Twain, Susan Elizabeth Blow, and Daniel Boone.
